Drs. Wetli & Fishbain Together Again: Dr. Charles Wetli, M.D. and Dr. David Fishbain, M.D., co-authors of seminal 1980s articles about excited delirium,will be presenting at the 2008 IPICD Conference, October 29-31, 2008.  Dr. Wetli will be presenting on "Mental Illness as A Cause of Excited Delirium" with Dr. Fishbain presenting on "Phemenology of Delirium".

DR. PETERS' ARTICLES REFERENCED in NEW TEXT and RAND STUDY: Two recently released publications have quoted and/or referenced several articles written by Institute President and Chief Learning Officer, Dr. John G. Peters, Jr. TASER ELECTRONIC CONTROL DEVICES AND SUDDEN IN-CUSTODY DEATH by Howard E. Williams (Charles E. Thomas Publishers) cited and referenced Dr. Peters' several articles on excited delirium. The recently released RAND Institute study of the New York City Police Department also cited Dr. Peters. Congratulations to Dr. Peters for the recognition of his writings in the excited delirium literature.

PRIMA RISK MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION'S 29th ANNUAL CONFERENCE: Institute President John G. Peters, Jr., Ph.D. and Wisconsin police defense attorney, Gregg J. Gunta, Esq. presented at the PRIMA Conference held in Anaheim, CA on Monday, June 2, 2008. Their presentation, "Excited Delirium and Sudden Death: Legal, Management, and Risk Management Issues" was moderated by Mr. Ken Horner, Director of Operations, CVMIC.

IPICD Funds Research and Web site: The IPICD recently funded a seminal research proposal by medical researchers at the University of California at San Diego Medical Center to research "Evaluation of the Ventilatory and Respiratory Effects of a Restraint Chair on Human Subjects".  In a separate project, the IPICD funded the development of a Web site at the Brain Endowment Center, Miller School of Medicine, directed by Deborah Mash, Ph.D. Stay tuned for more details. Funding was provided from tuition from the IPICD 2007 Excited Delirium Conference.

American Jail Association 27th Annual Training Conference & Jail Expo: IPICD President and Chief Learning Officer, John G. Peters, Jr., Ph.D. co-presented with Lt. Janet Fischer of the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department on excited delirium, Monday, May 5, 2008.  Over 300 people attended the presentation.

Excited Delirium Database: If you know of an excited delirium case or an in-custody death, please forward the information to the IPICD. The IPICD has created a database of such events. Dr. Peters will be analyzing these cases so the IPICD can create a contemporary and reliable database about these unfortunate events.
